Whats is San Ayahuasca?

Ayahuasca is a sacred brew from Amazon. Its ceremony is mainly performed in Peru and Brazil, but it can be seen in other regions of South America. Ayahuasca should not be considered a drug, neither a religion. It is the very female spirit of the jungle. It exists different ways of preparation and this can vary according to different cultures, even can vary between each tribe or each shaman. But normally Ayahuasca is a combination of two plants, the vine called Ayahuasca and a tree leaf called Chakruna. Ayahuasca vine is the purgative part or physical cleansing, while the Chakruna leaf is the visionary part of the mix that is produced by the molecule DMT (dimethyltryptamine) that is contained in this leaf.

Ayahuasca is used much in the treatment for addiction and other illnesses, as the native tribes of South America have been utilizing it for generations (approximately since 3000 years ago). Used as a brew, Ayahuasca makes people see their past lives and traumas from a different perspective that makes them start a healing process, eliminating the need of consuming drugs to fill what the people perceive as an empty hollow in their bodies. This substance when consumed under adequate circumstances makes the patients see their interior and thus, they can know themselves, this happens through visions, sensations and perceptions, maximizing their intelligence and critical capacity.

It is a concept proof about what many people who used Ayahuasca in rites already know, this brew can help us feel better, not only during the experience, but also during the next days or weeks”, says Brian Anderson, Psychiatrist at the University of California, San Francisco, who conducted a scientific study on Ayahuasca and published articles about the potential of the brew.

When someone knows that he or she is in the wrong direction and has the will to change, Ayahuasca rummages our interior and shows us the true root of the problem, then this show us the path that we should follow, and so, achieve happiness. To people who think that Ayahuasca is only a drug or hallucinogen, we can say that they have to experiment this millenarian treatment before judging without understanding the true meaning of Ayahuasca. This medicine has been used for thousands of years without causing dependency or addiction and there is no anthropologic study that have proved side effects, while many people have given testimony about how they have been helped by the consume of this sacred brew.

Man is a portal to whom one enters from the outside world of the gods, demons and souls into the inner world, from the great to the small. Small and insignificant is man; one leaves it behind soon, and then enters again into infinite space, from the microcosm to the vast inner eternity”, wrote Carl Jung in his text Seven Sermons to the Dead.

Finally, it is good to mention that not everyone can drink Ayahuasca, it is not recommended for people with cardiac symptoms or risks, diabetics or consumers of psychiatric medications. In fact, it cannot be taken up to six months after discontinuing antidepressant medication. And most important of all is that the ceremony should be conducted with the guidance of an experienced shaman, since misuse could bring serious consequences, not only physical but also spiritual.
